1. Create a
descriptive analytical bibliographic entry for the Early Ohio Imprint.
The entry should
contain the following elements:
-
A verbatim
transcription of the title page
- Notes as to
variations on the half title page
- Collation
pattern
- Information
about other materials in that title, such as illustrations,
preliminaries, and irregularities.
- A ˝ page
description of the contents or subject of the book and its importance.
f.
A ˝ page biographical sketch of the author using at least 3
bibliographic sources. Cite your sources using APA or Chicago Manual of
Style
You may use Ohio
Authors and their Books 1796-1950 as a starting place for the
biographical sketches – 5 copies are in the Rare Book Room for your use.
2. Using the following tools create a
union list of holding institutions. Since many of these reference tools
are older, this will be an ‘imaginary’ union list.
1.
Provide a list of each
reference tool and the entry number for the exact title you have.
2.
If the exact title is not
in the reference tool, indicate this.
3.
Provide the proper
abbreviation for each reference source (according to RBMS), and item
number for your title, and the holding institutions.
(some are on reserve, others are on the
shelf – please reshelve the books from the 4th floor)

3. Compare the entries in NUC and World
Cat catalogs to see if they show the same holding institution for the same
editions and imprints. – Which institutions continue to hold the title you
were assigned?
4. Describe your experiences using the
reference sources.
- Which tools were
the easiest to use? The hardest?
- Which would you
recommend to a researcher and why?
- What did you
learn and how did it help you understand the construction and printing
of hand-press books?
- What did you
learn about the compiling a union list of holdings?
