Funding a special project

How to calculate the funding:

Microfilm roll can hold 2000 frames or five 400 page books

The standard cost is $.25 per frame or $500 per roll (The price includes some processing for completeness and targets.)

You would need to film 1200 four hundred page books at $125 per book to make $150000

You would produce 300 rolls of film at $500 per roll to make $150000

Thought questions:

  • Where could you make additional money?
  • Would you need to hire staff to do this?
  • How would you allocate the work of your paraprofessional and student worker to compensate for the extra work?
  • Would you be able to actually perform the digitization project with the number of staff at your disposal?
  • How long to you think it would take you to make the extra $150,000?
  • Where will you market and advertise for the work?
