Arts & Crafts on the Internet

Description:

Are you plagued by patrons who want to redecorate their homes, plan a garden, fix their cars and a gourmet meal AND purchase beautiful art in their home-office? And they want to do it all this week! Do you know where to find all these topics in the library and the Internet? Here’s an opportunity to learn and explore two specialized reference areas of the Arts and Crafts (Practical Arts) resources in your library and on the Internet. Take some time away from the reference desk to learn and explore these topics. Then go back and help those “hurry-up, I need to find this and go” patrons.

Goals:

  • Learn basic reference tools and Internet sites in the Design (Landscaping, Home Decorating).
  • Find reference sources for the Practical Arts including Woodworking, Auto Mechanics, Cooking, Gardening, Needle Arts, and Home Repairs.
  • Refresh Reference Interview skills to determine which tools and resources in these subject areas serve your patrons’ needs.

Audience:

Audience: Any library staff providing reference assistance.
